License Title: School Teacher

License Description: Teachers prepare lesson plans, grade papers and examinations, and lead classroom discussions; deliver classroom presentations using a variety of instructional materials such as: films, slides, overhead projectors and computer terminals; participate in workshops and enroll in college courses to keep informed of current teaching techniques; meet with parents and school personnel; and, may supervise extracurricular activities.

Teachers are categorized into three broad areas: 1) elementary, 2) secondary, and 3) special education.

Authorizing Statute: Code of Iowa, Chapter 272

Requirements for License:An applicant seeking a teaching license must have a bachelor's degree and recommendation from an institution with an approved practitioner preparation program.

Six semester hours of continuing education are required every five years for renewal of a teacher license.

Renewal: $50
Exam: None

When:Beyond the necessary level of education, there are no examinations to pass in order to obtain a teaching certificate.
