|License Title: Nail Technologist|
License Description: Nail technologists apply sculptured nails, nail extensions, wraps, overlays, nail art or any other nail technique to the fingernails and toenails of a person. Also, they manicure people's nails, remove excess hair (by use of depilatories, wax or tweezers), and massage the hands, arms, ankles, and feet.
Authorizing Statute: Code of Iowa, Chapter 157; Iowa Administrative Code 645, Chapters 59-65
Requirements for License: Applicants must successfully complete a 325-hour course in nail technology from an approved school, consisting of a minimum of 150 hours of core life sciences, 50 hours of nail technology theory, 125 hours of applied practical instruction, and pass the required national and state exams.
Nail technologists from other states must apply to the testing service.
Eight hours of continuing education are required biennially of which four hours must be in the prescribed practice discipline for license renewal.
Duration: Two years
Exam: $75 - Theory
$30 - Iowa Law
Other: $10 - Temporary Permit
