License Title: Emergency Rescue Technician (Ert)
License Description: The emergency rescue technician (ERT) course is designed to train first responders, EMT-Bs, EMT-Is, and paramedics in various rescue techniques. The topics covered in the course include: rescue from heights and depths, extrication from automobiles, agricultural rescue, rescue from water, and other special hazards.
Authorizing Statute: Code of Iowa 147A
Requirements for License:An applicant must be certified as a first responder, EMT-I, paramedic, or EMT- B (or its former equivalent EMT-A or EMT-D, no longer offered in Iowa); complete a minimum 40 classroom hours, complete ambulance/rescue field experience hours as may be required by the training program. There are no mandatory renewal requirements and there are no fees for initial certification or renewal of certification.
There are no continuing education requirements for certificate renewal.
