License Title: Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate (Emt-I)
License Description: An emergency medical technician-intermediate (EMT-I) has received additional training in patient assessment, intravenous therapy, use of esophageal airways (an advanced technique for maintaining an open airway), and automated defibrillation. Paid positions are available in the state of Iowa.
Authorizing Statute: Code of Iowa 147A
Requirements for License:Applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent; have a current certification as an EMT-B; complete a minimum of 54 classroom hours, clinical hours and ambulance field experience as necessary to complete the patient contact requirements; and, successfully complete a state written and practical exam.
Thirty-six hours of continuing education are required biennially for certification renewal as well as having a current course completion card in CPR.
