|License Title: Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (Emt-B)|
License Description: An emergency medical technician-basic (EMT-B) examines and assesses the patient, recognizes signs and symptoms regarding illness or injury, and uses proper procedures to render basic emergency medical care. Paid positions are available in the state of Iowa.
Authorizing Statute: Code of Iowa 147A
Requirements for License:An applicant must be at least 17 years of age, proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, and must have successfully completed a course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). He/she must have a minimum of 118 classroom and clinical hours, ambulance/rescue field experience hours as may be required by the training program, and must successfully complete a state written and practical exam.
Twenty-four hours of continuing education are required biennially for certification renewal as well as having a current CPR course completion card.
