License Title: Electrologist
License Description: An electrologist removes excess hair by electric needle or electronic processes.
Authorizing Statute: Code of Iowa, Chapter 157; Iowa Administrative Code 645, Chapters 59-65
Requirements for License:Applicants must have 425 total course study hours, consisting of at least 150 hours of core life science, 50 hours of electrology theory, and 225 hours of applied practical instruction.
If an applicant has already met the requirements to become a cosmetologist, he or she can add an electrologist license by completing an additional 50 hours theory and 225 hours applied practical instruction in electrology and by passing the examination.
Out-of-state applicants must meet Iowa's license requirements.
Eight hours of continuing education are required biennially for license renewal of which four hours must be in the prescribed practice discipline for license renewal.
