License Title: Electrician & Electrical Contractor
License Description: Electricians perform wiring or installation, alteration, and repair of electrical wiring, apparatus, and equipment, either inside or outside buildings. This may include knowledge to properly plan, lay out and supervise the installation of electrical wiring, apparatus, and equipment for light, heat, power, and other purposes.
Authorizing Statute: Code of Iowa, Chapter 103;
Iowa Administrative Code 661, Chapter 502
Requirements for License:Education and experience requirements vary by license type. The license types are:
Electrical Contractor License
Class A Master Electrician
Class A Journeyman Electrician
Class B Master Electrician
Class B Journeyman Electrician
Apprentice Electrician
Special Electrician
Unclassified Person.
Fees:
Three-year license which expire December 31st and are prorated for:
Electrical Contractor $375
Master Electrician Class A $375
Master Electrician Class B $375
Journeyman Electrician Class A $75
Journeyman Electrician Class B $75
Special Electrician $75
One-year license which expire December 31st (not prorated) for:
Apprentice Electrician $20
Unclassified Person $20
| Examination: | | When: | An examination is required for Class A license using the Prometric test. Prometric will test on the 2005 National Electric Code (NEC).
Individuals who wish to obtain a Class A Journeyman license, Class A Master license and Special Electrician endorsement license from Iowa can request testing sponsorship from the State of Iowa Electrical Examining Board by completing a request form.
The Board may accept licenses issued by a local jurisdiction where applicants receive a score of 75 or above on a supervised exam offered by Prometric or Thompson Prometric or its predecessors Experior Assessment and Block. |
