|License Title: Education - Administrator (Principal/Superintendent)|
License Description: Administrators plan and set goals for a school or entire school district; set academic philosophy for the school; visit classrooms, review educational objectives, evaluate teachers, and examine learning materials. They also prepare budgets and administrative reports; confer with teachers, other administrative staff, parents, and community leaders.
Authorizing Statute: Code of Iowa, Chapter 272
Requirements for License:A principal must have at least a master's degree and have completed an approved administrative program from a recognized institution. In addition, the applicant must have three years of teaching experience.
A superintendent must have a master's degree plus 30 semester hours in an approved superintendent's program from a recognized institution. In addition, the person must have three years of administrative experience.
Renewal requirements for all licenses may be found on the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners website at http://www.boee.iowa.gov/.
Application: $85 for the license and $75 for the required background check.
Duration: Five Years
Renewal: $85 plus a $1 fee for the renewal background check.
